Advancing Open Research through Metascience
We are excited to announce the next topic of the ICOR public meeting which will explore the growing importance of metascience in the research ecosystem. Be sure to join us on October 2nd, (8am PDT, 11am EDT, 4pm BST, 5pm CEST) for an overview of how metascience is being implemented to improve the system and practice of research and foster a culture of continuous experimentation and improvement.
Here, you can find the meeting’s public agenda and a link to register for the event.
Metascience (or research on research) provides an evidence-based approach to understanding and improving scientific practices. It is therefore a powerful lens through which to examine and refine the open research lifecycle. By systematically studying how science is done, we can identify and address challenges, improve research practices, and ultimately accelerate the pace of innovation. In recent years, metascience has acted as a compass for the open science movement, providing data-driven insights to guide the development of policies, practices, and tools that promote transparency, collaboration, and reproducibility in research.
This ICOR meeting will cover the growing significance of metascience for improving scientific research and its value as the basis for developing new open and collaborative research practices. As metascience becomes a recognised practice for evaluating scientific evidence and identifying potential biases, it’s important for stakeholders from different regions to collaborate on metascience projects, share expertise and resources that address common challenges.
A unified approach to metascience can provide the mechanisms to help us learn from what we are doing and establish a continuous improvement cycle for implementing innovations in how science is done. It will also provide trusted information to governments and policy makers to make more informed and evidence-based choices. To provide some real-life examples of the power of metascience we have four expert speakers who will talk to the increasing influence of metascience as a systematic approach to understanding the practices, processes, and challenges of the academic research ecosystem:
1. Metascience for reforming research assessment: an Indian perspective
Moumita Koley, DST- Centre for Policy Research, Indian Institute of Science
2. Co-designing and delivering metascience projects
James Wilsdon, Research on Research Institute (RORI)
3. The Metascience Alliance
Brian Nosek, Center for Open Science (COS)
4. Metascience in practice: ICOR and the Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s (ASAP)
Kristen Ratan, Incentivising Collaborative and Open Research (ICOR)
Join us for what is sure to be a great session on October 2nd, (8am PDT, 11am EDT, 4pm BST, 5pm CEST) by registering here. And please do keep adding your ideas for meeting topics for the ICOR public meetings through this Google Form.
