New Paradigms in Research Communication – Continuing the Discussion
Mark your calendars! ICOR is excited to announce its first public meeting of the year, where we will continue the discussion launched at the “Future of Open Science Publishing” workshop held at HHMI’s Janelia Research Campus in December 2024.
Join us on February 27 at 8am PT, 11am ET, 4pm GMT, and 5pm CET.
Last December, a select group of open science experts convened to strategise a potential future of research communication. The aim was to define principles for a holistic model that champions robust science and aligns incentives for all stakeholders. Recognising the current fragmented landscape, the group prioritized collaboration and consolidation of open science initiatives, focusing on the essential attributes of an integrated research communication environment centered around open and collaborative practices.
This workshop served as a crucial first step in a larger conversation that requires broad community input. While the initial gathering was limited to forty participants to facilitate focused discussions, there is recognition of the importance of wider engagement and encouraging the community to contribute their questions and ideas. We will be exploring how the broader ecosystem can participate in this ongoing dialogue through a series of connected workshops, web meetings, and other events.
Our February 27th meeting will feature:
- David Stern, Group Leader at HHMI’s Janelia Research Campus, sharing the researcher’s perspective on the need for change in how we share research, and setting the stage for the meeting’s purpose.
- Michele Avissar-Whiting, Director of Open Science Strategy at HHMI, summarizing the workshop activities and outlining next steps.
- Katie Corker, Executive Director, ASAPbio and Veronique Kiermer, Chief Science Officer, PLoS providing perspectives from the workshop.
- Geoffrey Boulton, International Science Council, sharing an international perspective on wider developments in research communication.
Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the conversation! Register for the meeting here.
