Open Discovery Innovation Network (ODIN)

The Open Discovery Innovation Network (ODIN) is a collaboration platform where industry and academia co-create open research projects relevant for drug discovery and diagnostics. The ambition is to use the collective knowledge of all the participating researchers and to create long-term innovation for the benefit of patients, industry and society.

Project Goals

The aim is to create need-driven and precompetitive drug discovery and thereby form the knowledge foundation for innovative new medicines in the future. We do this without the restrictive framework of patents, as we believe open collaboration and sharing will make discoveries faster and more efficient. To this end, ODIN offers competitive funding for our participants’ best research projects across the industry-academia divide. The collaboration is the first of its kind in Denmark, and the hope is that the concept can be expanded to other research areas such as green tech, whereby ODIN may serve as a role model for new partnerships between research and industry.

Deliverables

Over the next five years, ODIN will expand its national and global network and will focus on drug discovery and better diagnostics within cardiovascular, cardiometabolic and infectious diseases. In addition, there will be a focus on technology platforms that may prove useful in treatment of various diseases. Data and results from ODIN projects are openly available and free for others to use, including industry competitors.
