Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) Guidelines

The Transparency and Openness Promotion (TOP) Guidelines is a set of 8 policy recommendations to increase the transparency and reproducibility of scientific research for journals and funders. Project Goals

The goals of the TOP Guidelines are to increase trust and verifiability of published research. Empirical research is more credible and reproducible if the evidence underlying its conclusions are available for scrutiny. Furthermore, published research is less credible and less replicable than it should be because of the biases toward statistically significant or novel results, which are unrelated to the underlying credibility of any claim. TOP policies are designed to reduce this problem.
