Open by Design: Large-Scale Implementation

There is much to be learned from initiatives that are built to be collaborative and open from the start, or later as the research progresses. ICOR will collect, log, and share evidence on policies, practices, and implementations that are working, as well as how being open by design impacts culture, incentives, and rewards.

Goals

  1. Track and learn from large-scale research initiatives that involve open research on multiple levels.
  2. For initiatives that weren’t originally funded as open, analyze the costs of ‘flipping to open’ with additional support.
  3. Set up experimental designs and/or extract evidence from existing experiments to analyze performance measures and scalability.
  4. Perform analyses across different large-scale implementations to derive new best practices, policies, and the potential for shared open infrastructures and services.
